Wikipedia defines Instant messaging (IM) as form of communication over the Internet, that offers an instantaneous transmission of text-based messages from sender to receiver. In push mode between two or more people using personal computers or other devices, along with shared clients, instant messaging basically offers real-time direct written language-based online chat. The user's text is conveyed over a network, such as the Internet. It may address point-to-point communications as well as multicast communications from one sender to many receivers. More advanced instant messaging allows enhanced modes of communication, such as live voice or video calling, video chat and inclusion of hyperlinks to media.

I define Instant Messaging(IM) as a means to socially communicate with friends. An easier way to letting someone down gently without hearing the sad tone in their voice and an exceptionally excellent way to tell someone to hurry up and get to the mall quick because there's a HUGE sale LMAO...ok ok maybe i'm not that shallow but this is a better means of communications. Have we really stopped to think that just years ago our only means of communication were "landlines" and "letters" its almost ancient :O Who can remember how annoying it could really get if you were trying to reach someone who wasn't home? Now there's instant messaging straight from your phone with imessage, Hookt, MSN, Yahoo messenger ETC...the list goes on and on and on. With communication constantly evolving has anyone ever thought of whats NEXT???? Let me know comments are always welcome ;)
